Our Decision-Making Process

UWSA’s consensus decision-making process is open, participatory and democratic. We value the group, trust, cooperation, and good will. We agree on the following as part of our decision making practice.  

• • Only core UWSA organizers can block a consensus decision.

• • Non core UWSA organizers can participate in the consensus process but cannot block.

A potential core organizer:

• • has participated in several UWSA activities
  • is identified as being in alignment with:
    • PISAB Principles
    • The consensus process

How to become a core UWSA organizer:

• • • 2-3 core organizers meet with the person
      
    • Core Organizers decide by consensus to invite the person to two organizers meetings. 
    • The person attends two organizer meetings. They can participate fully except to block a consensus process
    • After potential organizers have attended two meetings, core UWSA organizers may decide by consensus to invite the person to become core UWSA organizer.

Core UWSA organizers commit to
Attend at least 2 monthly organizer meetings each year. A retreat counts as a monthly organizer meeting.
Participate in a PISAB Undoing Racism workshop no later than two years after becoming a core organizer.
Does one of the following at least twice each year:

• • • participates in planning or facilitating a ULC, Connection and Action Hour, or another UWSA action;
    • drafts an Action Network email
    • bottom-lines an action or an event
    • participates in a base-building or another working group
    • helps recruit other core organizers

Only core organizers are members of the Core Organizers’ Signal thread, are members of UWSA-organizers@googlegroups.com, monitor email sent to undoingwhitesupremacy@gmail.com, are administrators on UWSA’s Action Network group,  authorize changes to undoingwhitesupremacy.org or have access to the UWSA organizers’ file-sharing drive.
